RIP.

A good friend of the family died on friday. I hadn't seen him for a couple of years, but he was very sick and couldn't make the trip from Mexico, to Miami where his sons live, to here anymore.

I'll never forget the time we stayed at his amazing house in Mexico for a week or so when i was about 6 years old. I'll also never forget the experience i had there with his wife...who had been deceased for some time before that. One morning while we were staying there, my mom went down to breakfast and told Pepe of the lady she had seen staring curiously at me lying in bed between my parents during the night. Pepe showed us a picture of his late wife and it was the lady my mother had seen. It turns out, it was the birthday of one of her sons- and that was his old bedroom. We figured she had come back to see him on his special day, but was confused when she saw a little girl in the place where her little son should be sleeping. She had died when they were younger- at the time my mother had seen her, they were in their early 20's or so.

Pepe was an amazing pianist and i was just learning. He encouraged and inspired me to do better- mostly by embarrasing me when he came for visits by asking me to play a new piece a had learned, but i had really been slacking a little.

He was a good man who lived a great, full life and i admire his accomplishments.

I have, with me right now, the sheet music to Clair De Lune.
This one's for you, Pepe.
